Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSB)

An interlocking building system Is different To conventional masonry, as It replaces regular masonry units and mortar, with hydraform or ecological blocks that are interlocking and dry-stacked

Hydraform Blocks and Eco-Blocks

Our homes are built using the Interlocking Building Technology based on the Hydraform and Eco-Machine Interlocking Blocks. The Technology replaces regular masonry units and mortar with Dry-stacked Interlocking Blocks. It differs from conventional masonry and is considered an alternative and sustainable building solution. A typical block is manufactured using a mixture comprising of soil, cement and water which is compressed by means of hydraulic pressure.

Hydraform Blocks - South Africa

A Hydraform block is a dry-stacked (hydraulically compressed) soil-cement, interlocking block, or Interlocking Stabilized Soil Block (ISSB) produced using Hydraform’s patented machine.

Advantages of the system

Cost-effective

Interlocking stabilized soil blocks (ISSBs) are made from locally available materials, such as soil, sand, and cement, which can significantly reduce construction costs. ISSBs eliminate the need for expensive traditional building materials like bricks or concrete blocks, making them a cost-effective option for building homes.

Eco-friendly

ISSBs are environmentally friendly as they utilize natural materials and minimize the use of non-renewable resources. The production of ISSBs requires less energy compared to traditional building materials, and they have a smaller carbon footprint. Additionally, ISSBs can be recycled and reused, reducing construction waste and promoting sustainability

High thermal performance

ISSBs have excellent thermal insulation properties, which can help regulate the temperature inside the home. They can keep the interior cool during hot weather and retain warmth during colder months, reducing the need for artificial heating or cooling systems. This can result in lower energy bills and increased comfort for the occupants

Durability

ISSBs are designed to be strong and durable, with interlocking features that provide structural stability. Once properly cured, ISSBs can withstand various weather conditions, including earthquakes, and are resistant to pests and fire. This makes ISSBs a reliable and long-lasting option for building homes that can stand the test of time.

Local availability

ISSBs can be produced locally using readily available soil and other materials, which can promote local employment opportunities and support the local economy. ISSB production can also involve local communities, providing them with skills and knowledge in sustainable building practices.

Community empowerment

Building homes with ISSBs can empower local communities by creating jobs, promoting self-sufficiency, and fostering community ownership and pride in the construction process.
